What will I learn?

BTEC First Level 2 Certificate in Children’s Play, Learning and Development will provide you with an understanding of children’s development and the role of practitioners in an early years setting. It will also develop your skills of interpersonal communication with children and adults in preparation for potentially working in the childcare sector. This course will help you to develop the competency and understanding needed when entering employment in this sector.

The Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Certificate is a 120 – guided learning hour (GLH) qualification that consists of three mandatory units. The units are as follows:

Unit 1: Patterns of Child Development (30 GLH)

Unit 2: Promoting Children’s Development through Play (30 GLH)

Unit 3: The Principles of Early Years Practice ( 60 GLH)

Assessment:

Unit 1: Examination (Externally Assessed) 

Unit 2: Course Work (Internally Assessed)

Unit 3: Course Work (Internally Assessed)

What can I do next?

Following completion of the BTEC First Certificate in Children’s Play, Learning and Development you may wish to progress to further qualifications in this sector such as the BTEC Nationals Level 3 in Children’s Play, Learning and Development. These qualifications will enable you to progress into employment in the sector in a supervised role.
