Tourism in London educational visit - December
On Thursday 7th December, Mrs Bates and Mr Kenefec took Year 12 and 13 BTEC National in Travel and Tourism students on a visit to London. The visit was aimed at supporting and reinforcing the students’ understanding of the Travel and Tourism curriculum and directly supported several of the topics covered in Unit 3 ‘The UK as a destination’ and Unit 2 ‘The Business of Travel and Tourism’ and Unit 4 ‘Customer Service in the Travel and Tourism Sector’.
Using public transport to reach London, the students attended a very interesting customer services at Madame Tussauds followed by entry to the attraction. The students also enjoyed Winter Wonderland and experienced London as a tourist at Christmas.
Once back at school the students were able to describe first-hand the appeal of London to different types of tourist and could analyse key information on the customer service provision offered by Madame Tussauds.

Reason for event
Participating in this visit enhanced our BTEC Travel and Tourism students understanding of key syllabi topics, which directly supports the curriculum covered in Travel and Tourism with Year 12 benefiting from learning about London as a tourist destination and Year 13 learning about customer service at a major London attraction.
Students are able to experience a truly multi-cultural tourist destination. The visit is a great opportunity to be independent travellers, working out how to get from one area of London to another using their tube maps. It also allows Year 12 and 13 to mix and develop friendship and support across the year groups studying the same course.
