HSBC Inspiring Women in Banking - November
120 young girls from across the country were invited to an event organised by the LIBF in partnership with HSBC. The event was held at the UK Canary Wharf Headquarters and the girls were able to attend a series of workshops including:
· Careers in Commercial Banking
· Careers in HR
- New careers: Fintech and digital financial services
- Careers in Retail Banking
They also heard from key speakers throughout the day - hearing from women in the banking sector and their journey to where they are now. The CEO of HSBC also gave a speech and had a Q and A session with the girls.

Reason for event
All of the young ladies that I took on the visit were studying Personal Finance at Level 3. This provided an excellent opportunity for the girls to dress in smart business wear, travel with the other London commuters and get a taste of what it would be like to follow a career in the financial sector. They were also able to find out about careers in banking they never knew existed and gained hints and tips for their CV’s and interviews. The girls demonstrated their finance knowledge by asking some intelligent and thoughtful questions in the Q and A session and were very positive about the event.
2 out of the 4 girls involved have now applied for and have been accepted onto an undergraduate course at the LIBF to study banking related degree courses and one of the other 4 has applied for a higher-level apprenticeship with Barclays.
