Ken Stimpson Community School has a rich and diverse careers programme to help support students now and in their future.

Our mission is to ensure that every student is aware of the career possibilities available to them. We aim to show them how the foundations they lay at Ken Stimpson prepare them for life beyond school.

At Ken Stimpson Community School our Careers and Enterprise provision helps raise young people’s aspirations and promotes access to all career pathways enabling all young people to develop the skills and outlook they need to achieve career wellbeing, including adaptability and resilience.  We are able to achieve this by developing a careers programme which follows the Department of Education’s guidance using the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

Pupils, parents, teachers and employers may access our careers programme from our website.  There is information on provision for each year group 7 through to 13.

The school measures and assesses the impact of the careers programme by evaluating each activity with the student and the provider, we also assess progression data and destination data.

The school reviews the information provided on an annual basis in the summer term.

During the event the students will form their own Marketing Agencies within their teams, by designing their own company name, logo and slogan.  Then, through a serious of missions and quizzes based on key areas of marketing i.e. advertising, experiential marketing and digital marketing, they will prepare to deliver a ‘pitch’ for the marketing business of a given brand.  Finally, they will go head to head with their peers to compete for the prize of Best Marketing Agency and/or the Best Presenter of the Day.

International Buddy Programme

Students will have the opportunity to buddy one of our international visitors during the year.  We have recently had visitors from Mexico, Taiwan, China, Spain and Italy all visiting Ken Stimpson on a two week education programme.  This opportunity gives Ken Stimpson students the opportunity to learn a new language and culture and the work opportunities overseas.

Travelex Maths Challenge

Students will work in teams with employees from Travelex to solve mathematical problems based around foreign currency.  They will also explore the links between maths and many career pathways.

Students will work in teams to solve problems, they will be exploring their communication, team building, risk taking and problem solving skills, all skills needed in the workplace.
