On the theme of active learning, all of the Year 7 students were provided with an opportunity to learn mathematics through Travelex, a company that deal in foreign currency exchange. Bringing a context into the learning of subjects is vitally important to appreciate why learning mathematics and other subjects is relevant. The students were great ambassadors for the school, they learnt a whole range of new concepts around exchanging money and currencies from around the world as well as key mathematical concepts.

Following a tour of the beautiful campus, we proceeded to the Winstanley Lecture Theatre where Terri explained in good detail about University Life, Russell Group Universities, applications, courses, accommodation, finance and the weird and wonderful clubs all students can get involved in.

Lunch was served in the Trinity Dining Room which reminded us all of Hogwarts Great Hall.

Back to the Winstanley Lecture Theatre in the afternoon for an interesting neuroscience lecture, delivered by Amar Sarkar, a psychology research assistant.

There was a lot to take in and think about and our students came away with more improved knowledge of the university process and life as an undergraduate. We hope many of them will feel inspired and more confident about applying for university.

This is a national award recognising Ken Stimpson as a school that has a commitment to high quality music education for children and young people as well as music provision within the local community. This is the second consecutive year we have received the award showing the ongoing commitment to Music Ken Stimpson has.
 
Along with the certificate came a letter stating “We would like to thank you, and recognise, all the hard work you and your colleagues do to ensure that pupils at your school are able to access and engage with a high-quality music education. Your dedication to offering and delivering a broad and balanced curriculum is both welcomed and celebrated.” Signed by Bridget Whyte, Chief Executive of the Music Mark organisation.
 
We are very thankful to have received this commendation following nomination from the Peterborough Music Hub. I would like to thank all the students and staff at Ken Stimpson for all the support they give us assisting us in receiving this award.

On the 28th of September, we hosted our annual Macmillan Coffee morning. Thank you to everyone for taking part & in total we have raised £113.05 towards the charity

We are very proud, as a school, of the word ‘Community’ in our name and students have been encouraged to reflect on how they can make a difference by working together and generally looking after each other to build a community both in school and the areas in which they live. They reflected on whether they had been kind and helped people and how working together can really make things happen.

Martin Luther King Jr once said “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is what are you doing for others?” and, in this vein, some key points were raised that we would be grateful if you could discuss further with your child:

• Take pride in both the school and your local community.
• Try to do something kind every day:
  • If you see someone unhappy would you ask them if they’re okay?
  • If you see someone on their own would you sit with them for a couple of minutes?
  • Smile at someone, it can make their day!
  • Pay someone a compliment, it can really make a difference!

By being kind and looking after each other anything can be achieved.

For the second week running, congratulations goes to Integrity for the attendance lead, close behind follows Aspire. All houses have had a decrease in attendance due maybe to the dreaded cold bug.  Students may still attend school unless you have a temperture, please supply medical documentation for any days ill after 2 days as per our school policy.  At this time of year it is quite important to instill good habits to ensure the students are gaining as much lesson time as possible.
